About
Highland Jiu-Jitsu Club was launched in King, NC in the fall of 2023 to serve Stokes County and northern Forsyth County. The Club was conveniently located just past the Dairio. In July 2024 it was announced that the Club would be moving to Rural Hall, NC and re-opening on Sept 1 on Broad Street. This move allowed for expansion of the physical space as well as the schedule. More fitness classes will be offered in addition to continuing jiu-jitsu classes. We aim to be service oriented and affordable for the whole family.

COACH Wesley McCarter (Brown Belt, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu)
Wesley has trained Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu full-time since 2015 after part-time training in it for several years before that. He has trained in schools affiliated with legends Lucas Lepri (Alliance) and Royler Gracie (Gracie Humaitá) and attended several of their seminars. Local professors and classmates have helped him to master the fundamentals. Putting in the mat time six hours per week for ten years has been crucial to his development, but he has also been an associate teacher since he earned his Blue Belt in 2017. Moreover, he has worked to help his Black Belt professor develop a solid curriculum to help students progress in the martial art. Coach McCarter founded Highland in 2023, teaches BJJ six classes per week, and now has a coaching medal count of three golds, four silvers, and one bronze. Wesley holds the educational degrees of B.A., M.A., and two Doctorates, completed the SafeSport Trained course with the U. S. Center for SafeSport in 2025, lives in Rural Hall, loves spending time with his amazing wife and two adorable daughters, researching family history, training in jiu-jitsu, serving the community, visiting the mountains, and cooking/eating fried rice with white sauce!

COACH Wes Klett (Purple Belt, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu)
Wes teaches Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for sport and for self-defense. His Evening Classes twice a week are for Adults, High Schoolers, and Middle Schoolers. Coach Wes is currently a four-stripe Purple Belt. He has trained in schools affiliated with legends Lucas Lepri (Alliance) and Royler Gracie (Gracie Humaitá). Wes lives in Kernersville with his wife and four kids and runs his own business. In addition to jiu-jitsu, he has trained in some other martial arts over the years, especially boxing.
Coaches Wesley and Wes are long-time friends and have trained under the same Black Belt Professor since the beginning of their martial arts training. They enjoy getting together for lunch when they can and discussing all of life's big questions. In addition to our resident coaches, there are very helpful and supportive Blue Belts regularly in the Club, and our Black Belt Professor makes occasional visits to check in.
